Justin Milne, the chairman of ABC, has voluntarily stepped down from his office. Public’s trust in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation is wrecking with the consecutive sacking of then managing director Michelle Guthrie and forthwith the sudden resignation of Chairman.

Milne was under extreme pressure after Guthrie’s departure. The board of ABC stipulates to uphold the organization’s independence and integrity but, the chairman himself was exposed to being heavily influenced by the government.
Just because the government “hated” some reporters, ABC chairman Milne urged the then managing director Guthrie to sack them.
Referring to a Justin Milne email, Fairfax Media insist he was involved in the firing of senior journalist Emma Alberici and News Limited publications revealed the Chairman Mr. Milne had ordered to sack ABC’s political editor, Andrew Probyn.

Justin Milne has been accused of despoiling ABC’s sovereignty. However, he denies these accusation saying,
“Absolutely 100 per cent not. In fact I feel that the interests of the ABC have always been uppermost in my mind,”
“Nobody from the Government has ever rung me and told me what to do in relation to the ABC.”
Despite his self-professed integrity, both the ABC board and the government seem pleased with his departure. Prime Minister Scott Morrison tweeted,

ABC board officially released a grim farewell statement saying it was,
“grateful for [Mr Milne’s] willingness to put the ABC first in coming to his decision to resign”.
